How to Use It

Pure vanilla beans offer a rich, natural flavor that elevates any recipe. Their aromatic seeds add depth to desserts, drinks, and even homemade perfumes or infused oils for a luxurious touch.

  • Split the bean lengthwise with a knife.

  • Scrape the seeds (called “vanilla caviar”) from the inside.

  • Add the seeds directly into:

    • Custards, creams, and ice creams

    • Cakes, cookies, and pastries

    • Homemade syrups or vanilla sugar

    • Cocktails or warm drinks (tea, coffee, chai)

  • The empty pod can be simmered in milk or steeped in alcohol to make vanilla extract or syrup.

How to store it

To preserve their rich aroma and soft texture, pure vanilla beans need to be stored with care. Proper storage ensures they stay fresh, flavorful, and ready for use whenever inspiration strikes.

  • Keep beans in a cool, dark place (not in the fridge!).

  • Store in an airtight container, ideally vacuum-sealed or wrapped in parchment and placed in a glass jar.

  • Avoid humidity and direct sunlight.

  • Check occasionally for mold or drying—if they start to dry, wrap them in wax paper and let them rehydrate with a lightly damp paper towel for 24 hours.

Creative Ways to Maximize Every Vanilla Bean

Vanilla beans are precious, don’t let any part go to waste! After using the seeds, the pod itself still holds rich flavor and fragrance. Here are a few creative ways to get the most out of every bean:

  • Vanilla Sugar:  Dry the empty pod and store it in a jar of sugar. In a few days, you’ll have beautifully scented vanilla sugar for baking, coffee, or gifting.

  • Homemade Extract:  Place used (or fresh) pods in a small bottle of vodka or rum. Let it sit for a few weeks, and you’ve made your own natural vanilla extract.

  • Flavored Syrup:  Simmer the pod with water and sugar to create a fragrant vanilla syrup, perfect for pancakes, cocktails, or desserts.

  • Infused Oil or Honey:  Add the pod to a bottle of olive oil or honey for a gourmet touch.

  • Natural Fragrance:  Place dried pods in drawers, closets, or sachets to lightly perfume your space with a warm, sweet aroma.
